'Wolverine 3' Release Date & Cast: Hugh Jackman To Walk Away After Third Film? Here's Why!

When the third "Wolverine" film hits the big screen, it's finally time to say goodbye to Hugh Jackman as the titular clawed mutant. After all, the Hollywood actor just confirmed that it would be the last time he'd be portraying Logan in the franchise.

Rumors that Jackman is finally leaving the "X-Men" spinoff series began to circulate as early as April, reported Yahoo. The 46-year- old actor posted a photo on his social network account in Instagram which consequently sparked the rumors.

The photo was of Jackman's hands with the Wolverine's claws coming out from the left, which he captioned, "Wolverine... One Last Time. HJ"

In a TV appearance at the "Dr. Oz Show," the Australian actor confirmed that the third film is indeed his last for the series as he felt it is the best time for him to leave, said Cinema Blend.

"It just felt like it was the right time to do it," said the actor. He continued, "And let's be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I'm grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it."

Jackman added that he already know how the ending would be for his character. He added, "I kind of have in my head what we're going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out."

It still remains unclear whether the Award-winning actor, who is set to hit the big screen as the clawed mutant soon, would join the superhero mutant crew in the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse," reported Comic Book.

The next movie in the "X-Men" franchise would hit theaters in 2016, a year before the last "Wolverine" film comes out and many fans are still hopeful to see him join Professor X and the rest of the gang.

He started with the franchise in 2000 when he played Logan for the first time in the movie, "X-Men." He has been part of seven films for the franchise since then, with the third "Wolverine" film as his eighth. Should he join director Bryan Singer's upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse," that would make nine "X-Men" movies for the talented Australian.

While it's confirmed that "Wolverine 3" is his last, it is still unclear whether Marvel would retire the character from the movies or find another actor to play the role.

Not too many plot details are known about the upcoming sequel except that its story would be set in a timeline that was not seen in the previous films in the series.

"Wolverine 3" is set to hit theaters in 2017.
