‘Black Widow’ Solo Movie Series in the Works? Scarlett Johansson Speaks Up!

“The Avengers” franchise first dominated the big screens in 2012. Since then, only three of the primary characters have not yet been given their own solo movies.

Rumor has it that a “Black Widow” film will be done soon and that the fans have become even more demanding regarding this matter after how Scarlett Johansson stood out in “The Avengers.” However, when Marvel Studios revealed the phase three films slated for 2019 last fall, a solo “Black Widow” film was not among the titles in the list, as pointed out by Screen Rant.

Despite this news, Johansson seemed pretty hopeful that a standalone “Black Widow” blockbuster will be made soon. “I think that there is room for a standalone movie,” she told Collider. “The character has a really rich origin story.”

Apparently, Johansson already talked to Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, about the matter. “Of course we have had that conversation before,” she revealed. “And, I think Kevin would also like to see a standalone film. I think I can speak for him and say that. That is all, really.”

“Right now, I think this character is used well in this part of the universe,” she added. “But, I think that Kevin – I mean, we have talked about it and we both share similar vision for what could be a standalone series.”

ScarJo says that she feels very “fortunate” that she was given the chance to build up the “Black Widow” character. “I think I have been able to grow with the character,” she said. “The character has been able to grow with me.”

“Her dilemma that she faces – it is a deeply personal one,” Johansson disclosed. “She has this great, huge, epic, kind of, calling, and, now, is suddenly going, ‘Wait a minute. I have this epic calling, but I want to make a choice for myself. I feel like I have put in the hours. I should be able to make active choices.’”

Johansson’s character, as depicted in the comics, decided to take the heroic path and put her own desires on hold. This trait is just one of the things that seem to contradict each other, thereby making the character even more interesting. Even ScarJo described Black Widow as “a character that is pulled in many different directions.”

“In my mind, there is room for plenty more Black Widows,” she said. “I think I could see her in a standalone film.”
