'Mortal Kombat X' PS4, Xbox One Update & Release Date: First Gay Character Coming?

Ever since it was announced that NetherRealm Studios is coming out with the "Mortal Kombat X," fans of the series have been excited to see the new things in store for them in the game. Word is out that the aside from the upgraded moves and additional fighters in the recently released game, the developers also decided to add diversity to the characters in the video game.

The game by NetherRealm Studios has been known to be very violent, graphic, and gory. For all the titles that came out for the series, what excited fans were the different ways players could take out their opponents. In fact, the developers came out with numerous video clips showing various brutal gameplays weeks before the game was released.

With the arrival of the newest title to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game consoles, fans of the game pretty much have an idea on what they would see and experience. What they did not expect in the game was to see the studio add a new character that hints of a different gender orientation.

Gay Star News first reported that one of the newest characters in the game, Kung Jin, is gay. Jin has been reformed and is now a member of the Special Force Unit as well as a monk archer. Prior to these experiences, he was a thief. The website added that the revelation came in the form of the fighter's flashback in Chapter 4.

In a certain part of the clip, the thunder god Raiden was speaking with Jin about his path, reported Kotaku. "Self-loathing has always been an unfortunate part of your make-up," said Raiden. The thunder god then told Jin to go and become a warrior monk. However, Jin said he could not do so.

"I can't. They won't accept," said Jin, to which Raiden, after seemingly getting the hint from the former, responded with, "They care about only what is in your heart, not whom your heart desires."

The dialogue has left fans to wonder while some speculated that it was pertaining to Jin's gender preference. None other than the game's cinematic director, Dominic Canciolio, confirmed the rumor.

Canciolio posted a tweet that said, "I see people are picking up on the subtle exposition contained in Kung Jin's flashback. Glad we have observant fans!"

According to Game Rant, Jin's "coming out" has been delivered well because this fact did not define who he is in the video game. His gender preference is just a part of his personality "but it's not the only thing that defines him."

"Mortal Kombat X" is now out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is scheduled for release to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in summer.
