Shots in Lil Wayne's Miami Beach Home a Hoax Says Police

Local enforcement responded to reports of a shooting at rapper Lil Wayne's Miami Beach home on Wednesday but per police, no victims or gunman were found at the scene.

"Unfortunately this appears to be a 'swatting' call. No victims/ no injuries /no subject," updated the Miami Beach Police over Twitter.

According to WSVN 7 News, before 1:00 AM, a 911 non-emergency call came in suggesting that shots were fired, four people may have been injured and police attention was required at the residence of the celebrity. "At 12:40 in the afternoon today, we received one phone call via our non-emergency line," said Police spokesperson Ernesto Rodriguez who spoke to members of the media on Wednesday.

"The individual who called advised that he had shot four people and requested police assistance at [the residence]... At this point, we have not located any victims ... We are not able to provide any additional information to not compromise this investigation."

Police and SWAT team member departed the residence after the property was "cleared" at 3:00 AM and declared the incident a "hoax" after nothing turned up.

"We weren't able to locate any victims or subjects inside the home," said Rodriguez. "The resident of the home and the staff had been extremely cooperative with police, which we appreciate. At this point, we have broken down the perimeter and have been unable to locate any victims or subjects. We can say for sure it was a hoax. The nature of that, we don't know. That will lead into an investigation."

While it's good news that all was safe and well in the home, officials took this opportunity to remind the public that fake calls to the police are counter-productive as it takes away the attention of local enforcement from actual issues that could be taking place. They reiterated that each call made to the MBPD is taken seriously and hoaxes pose a serious threat.

"This ties up a lot of police resources," explained Rodriguez, "and someone may need assistance in another location, and that response might be delayed. It's not a laughing matter." The owner of the property, Lil Wayne was reportedly away from the home when the incident happened.

According to the Young Money Entertainment's Twitter account, "Wayne is okay. Wasn't home during alleged events."

The Guardian recalls that in 2010 Lil Wayne spent eight months at Rikers Island jail in New York for gun-related charges.
