Inside Ellen DeGeneres’ Recently Sold $32 Million Montecito Mansion

Ellen DeGeneres, the former host of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, has recently sold her sprawling Montecito compound for $32 million.

The property, which spans 11,530 square feet, was first listed for sale for $46.5 million in October 2023. The Montecito mansion was taken off the market in November, and the deal was officially closed on Feb. 15, according to property records.

DeGeneres purchased the Montecito home together with her wife, Portia de Rossi, in June 2023 for $22.5 million and spent money to renovate the property prior to listing it for sale. Robert Riskin at Riskin Partners Group held the listing.

Inside DeGeneres' Montecito Property

Originally built in 1919, the Italian-inspired compound was remodeled in 2000 by its former owners before DeGeneres and de Rossi purchased the property. The estate offers six quarters, including a single-story main house, two guest houses, a pool house, an art studio, and a staff office.

In addition, the property also features a wine cellar, pool, tennis court, private gardens, and a chardonnay vineyard.

The main house is situated at the end of a long gated driveway and features five bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. One of the best features of the main house includes an open-air courtyard boasting Roman columns, a fireplace, and a central water feature, per Architectural Digest.

DeGeneres' Extensive Real Estate Portfolio

DeGeneres has put up a number of her Montecito properties for sale in recent years. In November 2022, she put her 1,945-square-foot cottage for sale for $5.85 million. The property, built in 1915, featured three bedrooms, three full bathrooms, one-half bath, and a guest cottage.

Earlier in 2022, DeGeneres also sold another Montecito property for $13.5 million. That home spanned 4,780 square feet and featured three bedrooms and four bathrooms. DeGeneres and de Rossi purchased that property six months prior to the listing for $12 million, per Mansion Global.

Since 2003, DeGeneres and de Rossi have bought and sold at least 20 properties, including a four-bedroom, four-and-a-half bathroom property to Will Ferrel for $9 million and a Wallace Frost-design Montecito estate that sold for $34 million in 2013, according to Architectural Digest.
