The coronavirus global pandemic has forced most employees to take their jobs at home and adapt to the so-called "new normal." But working from home could either be a blessing or a challenge for some.

One of the biggest challenge remote workers have to face is mentally leaving their comfort zone and switch to work mode. But since the work-from-home setup will now be a part of our daily lives, it is time to level up your home office game to reach your maximum efficiency at work.

Setting up a home office improvement is one of the most popular home improvement trends since the pandemic started. Instead of enduring your unhealthy work from home setup, why not join the trend and improve your home office with the following tips:

Invest in ergonomic office hair

If you've been working on your couch, bed, or dining table, then you have probably experienced back or neck pain while working from home.

Since most remote workers require sitting down in front of the computer all day, a comfortable ergonomic chair is a must to give enough lumbar support to avoid back pain. It also lets you focus and be more productive at work. A 2003 ergonomics study shows that employees who use an ergonomic chair increases productivity by 17.7%

Get a desk you'll love

Having a comfortable desk and chair is equally important. You might want to consider having a stand-up desk or height adjustable desk.

A stand-up desk is a kind of work table, which allows you to stand up comfortably while still working on your computer by putting in on the same height when you're upright.

While some may find the idea of standing up while working seems ridiculous as sitting down is more comfortable. But did you know that some studies show that sitting for more than six hours per day gets you a 40% chance to die within the next 15 years?

Upgrade light setup

Having lousy lighting feels uncomfortable and could strain your eyes, leading to fatigue, headaches, and blurred vision. Upgrade the home office lighting by doing any of the following:

A. Increase access to natural light by relocating your desk near the window. Studies show that exposure to natural daylight has positive effects on both physical and mental health.

B. Use lamps with higher color temperatures or above 3500K. Research shows that light with high color temperatures increases learning, productivity and improves focus.

C. Get LED lights with a color temperature around 5000K. It will not only increase focus but also saves electricity bill.

Cable Management

Having disorganized and messy cables from your computer, charger, speaker, and other home office tools is not only a pain in the eye but also a major cause of stress. Improve your cable management by organizing and hiding cables underneath your desk.

Do this by cleaning all the wires first, consolidate cables, put labels if necessary, and use cable covers to secure and protect your cords. Use cable-hiding products that are least noticeable so they will not be the center of attention in the home office.
