When it comes to our homes, we want to make sure that they're not only functional, but they are where we want to be. Like anything, homes become outdated and they stop being easy living spaces. Whether that is because you want to reduce what you are spending on your electricity bills, or you just simply light up the pathway a bit better, there is no end to what you can add to your home. If this is something you are thinking about, but you aren't sure where you can start, don't worry we're here to help. Here are the 10 essential things to add for remodelling.

Whole House Water Filter System

Whole house water filter systems are an excellent upgrade and makes your house safer and also increases the value if you are looking to sell later on. Whole house filters are an excellent addition in areas where the water is contaminated from bacteria or lead. They are difficult to install, so this is something that a professional would need to complete unless you have a good understanding of plumbing.

Storage

Storing is one of those things that we could always have more of. You can get some really smart storage options now that doesn't involve buying more furniture. You can look to box off the stairs to give you more storage options or you can look at smart cabinets that help you create order out of chaos in your kitchen.

Zip Tap

The British can't seem to live without having a kettle in their home and if you want access to hot water and don't want a kettle a zip tap is a great option. They are plumbed in like a normal tap, but they boil water instantly, so no more waiting for the kettle. You can also get ice cold water from them, taking away the need to keep refilling the fridge or buying bottled water

Smart Lighting

Seeing as how much of our lives are already automated, why not automate our lighting system? They work by talking to your mobile devices and can be turned on and off with a click of the button. These are amazing especially if you want to make it look like someone is home of an evening when you are away. Simply log into the app and turn the lights on. If you are also interested in keeping your electricity bill, you can monitor which lights are on and turn them off after your forgetful kids.

WiFi Security Cameras

We all want to protect our family and our homes and one of the best way to do this is by installing WiFi security cameras. You can access these from your phone so you can see what is going on. There are a range of cameras available, some are motion sensor, some just run 24 hours a day and can be accessed at any point. It would be worth discussing what type of system you want with your family, but they are very good at keeping you safe and recording any activities such as break ins.

Solar Powered Pathway Lights

There is something relaxing about having pathway lights up to your house. Not only does it make it safer when you are coming home late at night, it also adds a nice ambiance if you are sat out in the garden late at night. Solar powered pathway lights are exactly what they say on the tin. They are powered by the sun in the day and then glow during the night. Old pathway lights weren't as bright and didn't really create a safe warm environment. Modern day ones are as bright as LED and last longer.

Aqua Panels

If you hate the idea of tiling your bathroom and like the idea of cleaning grout even less, then aqua panels are the option for you. They are plastic panelling that can be used in your bathroom. They are available in a range of colours and designs, so if you have always wanted a marble shower room but couldn't justify marble, then this will be the answer. They are easy to install; they fully seal the bathroom and last longer than tiles. All you need to install them is a bit of patience and silicone sealant. They are also far easier to clean than tiles and keep the wall behind it clean and dry.

Rain Shower

Rain shower heads feel like luxury. When you check into a hotel and you see them, you are filled with joy. Rain shower heads used to be reserved for up market bathrooms and hotels, but now you can get them for your own home. Don't worry if you are concerned that you will always be getting your hair wet, you can get systems that have two showers on them. You can select the rain head or the standard head. They are easy to install and fit, you don't need to get a plumber to do this.

Wi-Fi Thermostat

Some days the weather is so variant, the idea of coming home to a freezing cold house makes us want to stay in the office. By hooking up your heating to your Wi-Fi that can easily control it. You can turn it on, off, up or down and even check if your kids have adjusted the temperature. It is a good way to reduce your heating bills too. You can turn the heating off when you leave your house and then turn it on an hour before your head home.

Electric Fireplaces

Nothing says home like a warm fire that you can relax in front of. Unfortunately, these aren't always an option for people, but this is where electric fireplaces come in. These are a far cry from the old electric fireplaces that pretended to look like wood burners. These sleek new electric fireplaces are housed in glass and look like they belong in mansions. They are cost effective, sleek and a modern way of having a fire in your home without having to deal with a flu or a chimney.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to upgrading your home, there are a few things you can install to make your home more luxurious and automated. These additions don't cost the earth and can make all the difference to your daily life. Whether you want to keep your electrical bill down, or want to lounge in front of a fire, there is a remodelling option for all budgets.
