Backstreet Boys may have announced in May that they are postponing their DNA North American Tour to 2021, but Howie D still has his real estate business to keep him busy. He and his development team have, in fact, just launched their $35M condominium project in Cocoa Beach.

Howie and the team are looking to break ground in late summer or early September on their newest project called "The Surf," Florida Today reported. The development will be a luxury condominium complex that will feature a swimming pool on the second floor and a spa and fire atop the ground-level commercial area.

The Surf is situated on North Atlantic Avenue and will have, apart from a retail space, 25 condos with prices ranging between $800,000 (1,770-sq ft, three-bedroom) and $2.2 million (4,080-sq ft, four-bedroom).

The building will have wrap-around glass balconies, Howie D describes, and will have 10 to 11-foot ceilings and a second level hangout area with a clubhouse and a pool. The project is slated to be completed in two years, according to Fox 35 Orlando.

Howie D considers Cocoa Beach a hidden gem which is why he and his family relocated instead of Orlando. So, it is not surprising when he said that he could end up buying a unit at The Surf for himself. He might even give his fellow band members some Backstreet Boy discount in case they are interested.

The Surf also provides two-car garages per condo unit and balconies with glass railings and a stunning ocean view.

Howard "Howie D" Dorough and his brother, John Dorough, have been investing in Brevard County real estate for years. They are the people behind Dorough Brothers Development and Consulting which has produced projects such as the Flores Ocean Suites, Flores del Mar, and Flores de la Playa, all in Florida.

As the Backstreet Boys take a break from touring due to the pandemic, Howie D is taking the opportunity to focus on his real estate business, he said in an interview with James Sparvero. But he has a great team who has been there for him, although he still tries to give a lot of input. The ideas and experiences that he had meeting architects from around the world, he shares them with the team, he added.

Dorough said that he is proud of what he has done and accomplished. He and his brother started this business over 23 years ago and he is very proud of what "we've created as a developing company. It's another creative outlet for me."

"...being an entertainer, it's just constantly creating, and that's exactly what I'm doing with these condo projects. It's creating something from scratch and seeing it to come to fruition...I get the same kind of adrenaline rush from that as much as I do from singing on stage."
