If you want a one-of-a-kind manor, be ready to spend tens of millions of dollars. For instance, a beautiful castle in Limoges, France, with 40 rooms, is listed for 16.8 million euros--that's $18.3 million.

It was operational between the 12th and 15th centuries. Currently, it is outfitted with modern trappings, a semi-professional kitchen, a home cinema, and complete with 16 bedrooms. Pretty pricey, but it is a castle. 

Where to Find the Perfect Castle

If you haven't thought of it yet, castle listings are pretty easy to find. If you don't know where to search for the castle of your dreams, you can try the following international property companies that are known for selling luxury real estate, like the following:

1. UK-based Prestige Property Group offers castles, mostly in Italy and France.
2. Le Figaro Properties sell luxuries in France.
3. Christie's International Real Estate specialized in luxury real estate. They are selling properties that cost $1 million, at least. 
4. Sotheby's Realty lists chateaus and castles online. They cater to the high net worth individuals, which is why most of their listings cost millions of dollars.

The best countries to look for castles for sale are France, England, Spain, Italy, and Germany. In these countries, you will find classic castles that are filled with history. If you're looking for a castle with a moat, turret or tower, these countries are the best places to hunt. 

You can also find castle listings in other European nations such as Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Belgium. It is also a great place to look for historic castles at affordable prices. Canada, South Africa, and the United States also have newer castle properties. Most of them were built in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries.
