So many people are under the false impression that the only jobs in real estate are realtors. But there are various careers in real estate that don't involve showing homes and hosting open houses.

Here are 7 real estate-related jobs that you may not have known existed.

1. Appraiser

There are two types of appraisers: residential and commercial.

A residential appraiser collects data about residential properties in order to submit a report about each property's worth. A commercial appraiser does the same thing but for offices, retail locations and other commercial buildings,

Appraisers can be either self-employed, work for a bank, or even the government.

Both disciplines require you to get licensed but the pay tends to be better as a commercial appraiser,

2. Real Estate Broker

A real estate broker helps coordinate real estate transactions between buyers and sellers. Brokers have a broker license and typically start a real estate brokerage of their own.

Real estate brokers may hire realtors to help clients see homes or get their properties listed.

3. Real Estate Developer

The job of a real estate developer is to purchase land and build either multi-family dwellings, commercial properties, or office space.

Developers also might buy old properties and renovate them. Real estate developers work closely with a variety of professionals such as architects, planners, and contractors.

Once their property is built or renovated they sell or lease it.

4. Home Stager

Home stagers help sell properties. They make sure the first impression of a home or property is a good one.

They do everything from bringing in decor and artwork to re-arrange furniture. Stagers often are self-employed but sometimes work for a real estate agency or brokerage.

If you want to be a home stager, you should have a design background or at least have a talent for creating stunning spaces on a budget.

Stagers either own their own pieces or have a deal with decor stores and rent their items to stage properties.

5. Foreclosure Specialist

Foreclosure specialists typically work for a bank or a private lender. Their job is to oversee all the documentation and the process of foreclosing a property.

A typical day as a foreclosure specialist may involve reviewing a client's financial statements as well as processing cases in order to get the properties ready to be resold.

The essential skills for this job include being deadline-driven and very organized.

6. Home Inspectors

If you have ever bought or sold a home before, chances are you had to have a home inspector come to inspect your property. Yet, this is often one of the most overlooked jobs in real estate.

Buyers usually pay for a home inspection to ensure that the home they're planning to buy is in good structural condition.

Home inspectors review the home from attic to basement both inside and out and review electrical, plumbing, foundation, and appliances. This is a good job for people who like knowing about a lot of different types of home maintenance.

This career does require qualifications that vary by state.

7. Property Manager

Property managers look after properties. They might be residential, commercial, or multi-family properties.

In this role, you will perform a variety of functions such as showing properties, dealing with repairs, collecting rent, handling tenant complaints, and handling evictions.
