Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United? Red Devils Need to Break the Bank [Rumors]

English fans of football star Cristiano Ronaldo have been waiting for his return since he moved to La Liga. Rumors have been circulating that the Portuguese player's former team in the Premier League are keen to get him back.

However, the star's agent, Jorge Mendes, shared that it would take a lot for Manchester United to bring back the player to Old Trafford.

In a report by The Mirror, Mendes revealed that it would take an estimated £300 million to get the Portuguese striker to sign with another team outside Madrid, if the company decides to sell him at all.

The 30-year old player currently has a €1 billion (£785 million) release clause from the team based in Santiago Bernabeu, according to Master Herald. Mendes added that the clause is justifiable given that his ward "is the best player ever in the world and the best sportsman ever."

The Spanish agent mentioned that Ronaldo is by far the greatest player. Hence, a team would snap up the three-time Ballon d'Or winner immediately if Real Madrid decides to sell him at £300 million.

In September 2014, The Telegraph reported that Louis Van Gaal of Manchester United has expressed his desire to sign the 30-year-old player back to his team.

Ronaldo has moved from the Red Devils to Real Madrid in 2009 in a world record amount of £80 million after playing with the former, previously led by Alex Ferguson, for six years.

While Manchester United is perfectly capable of buying Ronaldo, it may not deem it a viable transfer based on the costs. Getting the striker might mean shedding off some key players, and the Red Devils could not afford to lose its athletes.

However, The Daily Star reported that Van Gaal exerted extra effort to convince the Red Devils' owners, the Glazers, of the necessity to have Ronaldo on board once again.

Manchester United has the first option to re-sign the star on their team as it was them who sold the Portuguese player to Madrid. Paris St. Germain, Manchester City, and Chelsea no longer pursued Ronaldo as they deemed the player "too expensive."

Instead, Ronaldo signed a renewal of his contract that would see him stay at the Bernabeu until 2018.

Mendes thinks that the star would stay with his current team until he retires. Speaking to Yahoo, he said, "I believe that Cristiano will finish his career at Real Madrid. He's happy at the club and is still keen to achieve more success in Madrid."
