Eglon House, Former Mayfair Studios, Office on Sale for £24 Million

Eglon House was a home for Mayfair Studios until it shut in 2008 due to a financial problem. Now, it is in the market for £24 million or around $35 million.

This stunning property is the place where The Smiths, David Bowie, Tina Turner, and Pink Floyd recorded some of their songs. It used to be a stable block, then a shell casing factory, and then a dairy before being converted to Mayfair Recording Studio in the 70's.

The Eglon House is located in an exclusive neighborhood called Primrose Hill in North London. This huge live/work space inspired by the Art Deco Maison de Verre (an iconic home in Paris by architect Pierre Chareau, built in 1930s) was designed by Russel Sage together with a local developer.

The house has a striking glass-block façade. It has three stories and a basement, which are all connected by an elevator. It also has an indoor pool, a cinema room, and a wine cellar. It has exposed shuttered concrete ceilings and there are lots of visible structural elements throughout. There are also some details that are borrowed from Maison de Verre like the blue carpet in the master suite, which has the same shade that is used in Chareau's design.

The 13,154-square-foot home has seven bedrooms that include the master suite, two children's suites, and four additional rooms. There are also seven bathrooms, one professional and one domestic kitchen, an orangery with a private roof terrace, and two reception rooms.

The home has been designed to house a "live-work" lifestyle, since it has a lot of spaces for a home office, according to the listing.

"It has been essential for everyone involved in this extraordinary piece of architecture that it also functions as a lyrical and livable home, where the furniture serves a purpose, framing our view and guiding guests through the internal spaces," Sage says. "In this way, the house has become a visual adventure, full of surprises and exquisite tactile detail."
