Chevrolet Volt 2016 Extends Battery Range to 53 Miles

The Chevrolet Volt 2016 has increased its battery range from 38 miles to 53 miles, lessening the need for gasoline.

The Chevrolet Volt 2016 is the second generation of Chevy's Volt series, the first gen was introduced in 2010. The Volt series of Chevy introduced electric powered cars with a back up gasoline engine generator.

After five years, the Chevrolet Volt 2016 has undergone a lot of improvements. Most notable of its improvements is the significant increase of the battery range.

General Motors says that the present Volt owners make 80 percent of their trips without starting up the gasoline engine, and the increased range will push that figure to 90 percent.

The Volt is a hybrid between an electric car and a gas powered motor.

The engine of the new Volt is a 1.5-liter direct-injection, aluminum block unit that uses plebeian fuel that can pump up to 101 horsepower as opposed to the iron block 1.4-liter unit that needed premium gas.

The dual motor setup of the former Volt is revised to be 100 pounds lighter and 12 percent more effective than the former versions. The motors will work in conjunction more often, and thus more effectively.

The hybrid car is strikingly faster. Boasting a 19 percent improvement in its 0 to 30 mph time (now 2.6 seconds) and 0 to 60 mph (in 8.4 seconds).

Other improvements made in the car includes the inclusion of the fifth seat in the back which can be considered as uncomfortable and can seldom be used. They also improved the heater in the seats and steering wheel.

The most noticeable change in the 2016 Volt is the stylish design that competes with other gas powered cars.

The Volt also has state-of-the-art security features such as Lane Keep Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Forward Safety Awareness.

Chevy partnered with LG to further improve chemistry and packaging in the 18.4 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion pack. It lessens the number of cells by one third to 192 and enhanced the hardware that manages them, creating a more agile and a more powerful battery.
