Real Estate 101: How To Be Thrift When Selling a House

Selling a home not only gives you profit but can also serve as a burden, especially when you need the assistance of a real estate agent. However, there are other means in selling a home where you can actually save more on expenses. Part of that is being your own real estate agent and knowing how to advertise your property for sale through online means.

According to Topix, last 2013, Daniel DiGriz, the CEO of marketing firm named MadPipe, finally decided to relocate to New York City from Oklahoma City. Knowing that acquiring a place totally alien from you might be costly. So, DiGriz decided to first sell his Oklahoma home before moving up to the Big Apple.

While he was pondering on how to actually sell his home without having to spend too much on making it sell, he already had work experience concerning the real estate business due to his participation in a real estate software company. Therefore, he already knew the basics in selling a home and how feasible it is for him to sell it on his own. Knowing that he would need the services of laborers when furnishing his house, at least he already knew that listing his home through online would make him save a lot of commission for not needing a real estate agent to get the property exposed.

Knowing all of this, DiGriz formulated a strategy wherein he would get his property listed on the Multiple Listing Service, Zillow and Trullia, the leading websites where home seekers would visit when acquiring a home. In acquiring this service, he only paid a listing agent $500. Also, he advertised his property by giving a discount for potential clients who did not acquire the services of agents when deciding to purchase a home.

According to USA Today, if one was to purchase homes, he would need to pay about 6% commission to the real estate agent, 50/50 between the seller and the buyer. Since the home price would cost about $282,000 as average, it would mean that the real estate agent would be paid $16,000 as an average rate.

Knowing this, now you know that selling a home does not need for you to acquire services of the real estate agent, especially when you don't want the profits of the sale diced up by those who are just facilitating the business transaction. Through the example of Daniel DiGriz, we now know that it could actually be cost-effective for home sellers to list their properties online, with an added effort on research and knowing the necessary aspects in real estate business transactions, could actually be more beneficial to you... minus the cost!
