Donald Trump's Hotel in Washington, DC Will Open Two Years Ahead of Schedule

Donald Trump announced on Monday, Feb. 8, that the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., the newest addition to his empire's growing list of luxury hotels, will open this coming September 2016. This date is two years ahead of his previous target of August 2018.

"Under our agreement with the U.S. government's General Services Administration (GSA), the hotel was scheduled to be completed by August of 2018, but through our team's hard work and close collaboration with the GSA, we will now be opening almost two years ahead of schedule, which is unheard of for a project of this size and complexity," Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka said in a press release.

Consequently, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton is pleased at the positive news.

"After the more than a decade of work it took to get our bill authorizing this project out of the Congress, I am the first to appreciate that D.C. residents and visitors will be happy to begin enjoying this historic landmark ahead of schedule, and that both the federal and D.C. governments will begin receiving revenue from this high-value site in 2016 instead of 2018," she said.

The hotel used to be the capital's Old Post Office Pavillon, a historic building originally built in 1899. After being nearly demolished, the GSA leased the property for 140 years to The Trump Organization in 2013.

"For decades people have looked in wonderment at the magnificence of the Old Post Office building and structure. There is nothing like it and we are so proud to have not only brought this incredible building back to life, but also to a position far greater than it ever was at its previous zenith," Trump stated.

The new luxury hotel is said to have restored the intricate original stonework, wood milling and paneling of the 19th century building, while installing the latest high quality technology and amenities. It will have 263 rooms and 35 suites, including the Trump Townhouse which will have its private entrance on Pennsylvania Avenue.

It will also have a massive grand ballroom big enough to host international meetings and lavish private functions. The 13,200-square-foot ballroom is a new addition to the main structure, and features a column-free design. It is said to be the largest luxury ballroom in the whole of Washington, D.C.

Another opulent feature is the 10,000-square-foot spa and fitness facility whose design was headed by Ivanka herself.

Upon its opening, Trump's hotel conglomerate will now have 11 luxury hotels spanning North and South America.
