Bela Lugosi’s Beachwood Canyon 'Castle La Paloma' for sale

The red brick mansion where Bela Lugosi, the Hungarian-American actor famous for portraying Count Dracula, lived off-and-on during the 1930s and 1940s is up for grabs for $4,197,000.

The Los Angeles Curbed reports that, built in 1924 and known as "Castle La Paloma," this mansion has changed hands several times and undergone restoration recently. Set on a 0.3-acre lot, the home has five bedrooms and five bathrooms, as well as a ballroom-sized living room, a formal dining room, a library, a gourmet kitchen and a service wing.

According to the listing, the master suite is expansive and features inlaid flooring and hand-made ironwork. This Hollywood Hills home also boasts beamed ceilings, mahogany doors, iron and glass windows, a slate roof and original tile work throughout the 12,000 square feet of living area. The floor plan allows for plenty of natural light in addition to excellent views.

On the outside, this gated property includes a large infinity pool and a spa.

The property, listed with Konstantine Valissarakos of Sotheby's International Realty, changed hands in 2011 for $2.25 million and was sold again last summer for $2.6 million.

According to another Curbed report, Lugosi, whose real name is Béla Ferenc Dezső Blaskó, lived in a number of houses in the area. Quoting details available in Los Angeles city directories, the report says the actor lived at 3714 Lankershim Boulevard from 1937 to 1941. He later moved to 10841 Whipple Street, where he lived from 1941 to 1952. Supposedly Lugosi's favorite home, the place is now gone.
