'Van Helsing' TV Series Updates: Female Helsing Takes Over as Syfy Orders Futuristic Re-imagining of the Movie

"Van Helsing" gets a TV series as ordered by Syfy cable. This show will have a futuristic reimagining from the movie version, as it will be gender-swapped and a female Van Helsing will take over. 

Spinoff Comic Book Resources reports that the TV adaptation of the movie "Van Helsing" will have a woman as a lead role. As mentioned in the official announcement of NBCUniversal-owned cable channel, the story of the TV series will focus on the life of Vanessa Helsing. She is "next in a lineage of warriors who must lead humanity against a world controlled by vampires."

Syfy also includes in its announcement the executive producer at the same time writer of the "Van Helsing" TV series. Variety says that Neil LaBute, the director of "Dirty Weekend," "In the Company of Men," and others, is excited to be the showrunner of the upcoming TV adaptation.

The online magazine quotes LaBute saying, ""I am extremely excited to be working with Syfy and Nomadic Pictures to create a unique, character-driven action series that will move the traditional vampire tropes into bold and unexpected new territories."

LaBute also said that "Van Helsing" TV series is a wonderful chance for him (and his team) to excogitate great stories and come up with unforgettable characters. He is also exhilarated to be working with "Chad and Mike at Nomadic again and with Chris Regina at Syfy."

On a separate report of Entertainment Weekly, it has disclosed what producer Chad Oakes thinks of the upcoming "Van Helsing" TV Series. Oakes said in his interview that the series will bring in a new mythology in sci-fi. "The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival," he explained.

As of press time, there's no female actress yet that is casted to play the lead female character in "Van Helsing." However, the show has already been slated to hit the small screen in fall 2016 with 13 episodes.

"Van Helsing" movie was released in 2004 with Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale portraying the lead characters.
