'Aliens 5' Release Date, Cast & Plot: Neil Blomkamp Making Sure Sequel Won't Overlap with 'Prometheus 2'?

With the announcement that the long awaited sequel to "Aliens" is in production, some fans of the franchise have expressed skepticism on how it would be different with the upcoming "Prometheus 2" film. However, director Neil Blomkamp is reportedly doing his best to ensure that his film won't overlap in any way with Ridley Scott's project.

When "Prometheus" came out, the story seemed to have served as a prequel to the 1979 sci-fi thriller, "Aliens." Coming from the same director, Scott, the movie's ending hinted of his previous work when it showed the birth of the xenomorphs.

Now that "Prometheus 2" is happening as well as "Aliens 5," it is inevitable for fans to speculate that as the movies are connected somehow and from the same cinematic universe, these might be redundant.

According to Master Herald, Blomkamp is taking all necessary steps to ensure his "Aliens 5" has its own identity separate from "Prometheus 2." The director seemed to be taking a page from the film's critics who have been very vocal in saying things that they believe would not work out with the sequel.

Meanwhile, Venture Capital Post noted that the director is taking the upcoming film back to its original roots and the film's story would take place immediately after the events of the 1986 "Aliens" film by James Cameron.

Since Scott is also producing the new "Aliens 5" film, the two directors have been working closely together to ensure that no overlap would be made.

According to Screen Rant, Blomkamp revealed that he had to make a few adjustments to keep his film out of "Prometheus."

"I changed the one thing Ridley Scott felt was bumping 'Prometheus' a little bit. One thing that makes me feel good about it is that Ridley is producing it. He like the idea of what I want to make," said the "Chappie" director.

Blomkamp also expressed that his main focus in this new film is the first two films, "Alien" and "Aliens."

"Where it went after 'Aliens' to me, as a fan, was wrong. The new film will be the triplet of the first two. There's a s***load missing as a fan that I would want to see," said the director to Scified.

Sigourney Weaver has been confirmed to reprise her role as Ellen Ripley in the upcoming "Aliens 5."

The movie is reportedly coming out a year after "Prometheus 2" is released.
