'The Great One' Gretzky Sells Mansion Again for $22.9 M

The Hockey Star's Mansion is Being Sold for a Grand Total $22,900,000

According to Realtor.com, the mansion property of the former hockey star player and legend is currently located in Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California. It is currently listed in the market for a total of $22.900,00, which is quite the amount. But the said amount has a reason for it being its price tag: the said property has a total acre size of 6.6862 acres while having total square feet of 291,251.

Thanks to that property size, the said housing mansion has a lot of property features to show off to its potential buyers. Listed below are the known current features of the said property:

  1. Bedrooms: 6
  2. Bathrooms: 8 (1 1/2 bathroom, 7 full bathrooms)
  3. Full laundry facility
  4. Breakfast room
  5. Cabana
  6. Office room
  7. Dining room
  8. Family room
  9. Guest & maid quarters
  10. A covered patio
  11. Sauna room
  12. A private pool
  13. Garages (4 slots)

The property was originally built in 2002 by Gretzky and his wife Janet. They lived in the said property for almost 5 years and then sold it to a former major baseball league player Lenny Dykstra for the price of $18,500,00. Unfortunately, Dykstra had faced various financial issues after leaving his sports career, and in 2008 have tried to sell the said property during that time. However, since that time the US Housing Market crashed happened and no one bought the property.

The Fate of the Mansion Was Almost a Rollercoaster Ride Afterwards

According to Yahoo! Finance, the fate of the said property became a rollercoaster ride afterward that. Instead of selling it further in the housing market fruitlessly, the former baseball league player has auctioned the property for most investors for $760,000.

However, the price that it was auctioned off at is below the average price of housing property being sold in both Toronto and Vancouver. The additional drawback to this property is that the buyer will have to shoulder the nearly $12 million dollars debt the property currently has.

Luckily, Gretzky has purchased back the property once they have returned to Los Angeles. They have lived elsewhere after selling it to Dykstra and purchased it back from him for around $13.5 million dollars. Since the property is now back again for sale, you can view it in most housing markets today, as long as you have enough money to meet its asking price.

According to most market sites, the monthly payment for this property will cost around $106,605 on average. That amount includes the following:

  • Principal & interest
  • Property taxes
  • Home insurance fees
  • HOA fees
  • Mortgage insurance fees

For veterans planning to buy this property, they can benefit from having no mortgage insurance required and no downpayment required upon purchase. The said benefit for military veterans or for families that had a spouse that worked in the military can avail of the said benefits.
