'Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens' Trailer, Plot & News: Ewan McGregor Wasn't Cast, Slams New Lightsaber?

Ewan McGregor, the actor who played Obi Wan Kenobi in prequel trilogy (episodes I through III), hasn't been included in the upcoming 7th series installment, "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens."

Even though he doesn't have a role, he has seen the trailer and had a pretty sharp comment. The 43-year-old actor spoke his mind about the new lightsaber. The "Last Days In The Desert" actor comments on why he's skeptical about the new design.

"I was a bit dubious about the hilt on the lightsaber," McGregor told Vanity Fair. Based on his experience as a lightsaber-wielding Jedi, he summarized, "It's got a hilt now, you don't need a hilt. If you know how to handle a lightsaber, like we did, you don't need a hilt. That's just one thing I think they might have got wrong."

Feelings aside, the Scottish celebrity only had great things to say about the upcoming film's new trailer.

"The trailer looks really good, it looks like they've kept the right spirit," quoted Mail Online of the actor who also revealed he will definitely be taking his four kids to see the film when it hits theaters.

Star Wars Appearance

The "Star Wars" franchise veteran also shared that he hasn't been contacted regarding an appearance in "The Force Awakens." He admits he's open to it and is still waiting to be contacted by the studios.

''I'm still waiting for the call! Seriously . . . But literally, I have had nothing. Nothing," said McGregor to MTV News via Express UK.

''And I don't even know how it could work, because I don't know what those stories are. I never discussed them with George [Lucas] when we made ours, so I have no idea what the three storylines are," confessed the star.

He did, however, have an idea he boldly shared. "I suppose, after my last one, after 'Episode III,' I become Alec Guinness, and then Alec Guinness is cut down by Lord Vader, and goes into [The Force]. But then, if he came back from there wouldn't he be Alec Guinness? Why would he suddenly be me?"

He ended by laughing and saying, "I'm talking myself out of a job here, which is a silly idea."

McGregor appeared in the prequel episodes between 1999 and 2005. His character role appears in "Episode I The Phantom Menace", "Episode II Attack Of The Clone" and "Episode III Revenge Of The Sith."

The film's plot takes place 30 years after the events of "Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi"

"Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" is directed by J.J. Abrams and is set to hit theaters Dec. 18, 2015.
