Android 5.0 Lollipop Update: 5.1 Download Confirmed for February

Four months after Google rolled out its latest operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop, an update is set to follow through. Word is out that Android 5.1 Lollipop is scheduled for release next month.

According to Master Herald, the Android 5.1 Lollipop update was created to address issues and problems in the Android 5.0 version. Since the earlier version came out, many smartphone users, which upgraded to the new operating system, encountered problems.

For their part, Google did address these concerns. The tech firm came out with the Android 5.0.1 for Nexus phones in December and another Android 5.0.2 patch in January 2015. However, the two patches were still unable to completely fix the bugs and problems.

A report by Customs Today echoed the rumors that the Android 5.1 upgrade is set to come out in Februay. The new version is supposed to fix all the problems encountered in Android 5.0 once and for all.

According to AndroidPit, the new OS is set for the end of February 2015 and not only would it fix previous glitches, but it would arrive with entirely new features as well.

Among the new inclusions are the silent mode, which was removed on Android 5.0, better RAM and battery management, a fix for apps closing suddenly, consumption of network when Wi-Fi option is used, problems with notifications and Okay Google functions which have been solved as well.

Issues with sound that arose in selected devices have been addressed in the new version too.

For the upgrade roll-out, priority remains to be Nexus and Google Play Edition devices.

According to PC Advisor, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 devices automatically get the Android 5.1 Lollipop update while earlier devices such as the Nexus 5, 7 and 10 would be able to access the update over-the-air.

Meanwhile, HTC and Sony may soon follow depending on how fast they are able to adapt their user interface with the update.

Other Android units may have access to the upgrade by June or July 2015 as some brands are still waiting for the Android 5.0 Lollipop to arrive for their handsets.

While some users have complained of the glitches, others remain upbeat with its new features. The new Material Design which comes with the upgrade is so much more than just a decorative change, noted Know Your Mobile.

Thanks to the upgrade, user experience is enhanced and more seamless. The Material Design was created to allow users to "see an element on the screen and intuitively know how to interact with it."
