Android L 5.0 Lollipop Update: 5.1 Download for Nexus, HTC & Sony this February?

Google is reportedly set to release Android 5.1 Lollipop on select devices this February. Developers of the operating system hope that newest update would finally be able to address the glitches experienced by users with the 5.0 Lollipop operating system.

According to IT Pro, the new update would be available in summer. However, some select few devices would be able to access it earlier than the others this February, the report added.

The Nexus devices would be the first to access the update on the system. According to a report by Ecumenical News, the Nexus 6 smartphone and Nexus 9 tablet would come out with the new update automatically included. On the other hand, Nexus devices, which are still on Kitkat 4.4.4. and the Nexus 7 on Android 5.0.2, would have to wait for the roll-out.

Meanwhile, HTC has announced that the update was received as early as November last year. Users of the HTC One M8 and M7 would just have to wait for further advise but the upgrade might be available as early as January. It's possible that the HTC One M9, the upcoming generation of the company's flagship phone, said to come out this year, would be available in the market with the 5.1 Lollipop installed already.

For Sony devices, IT Pro has listed all Xperia Z units to be in line for the update. Early January, executives from Sony have announced that its Xperia line is ready to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. However, that statement was made prior to the 5.1 Lollipop update, noted Master Herald. With this new development, it may be plausible for the company to just release its devices with the 5.1 version.

A post from the company's blog site has noted that the first devices to receive the update would be the Xperia Z2 and Z3 units.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system was one of the highly anticipated updates from Google in 2014, said Master Herald. But like any new system, the early version encountered bugs and glitches which have affected many users who immediately upgraded after its launch.

The number of fixes forced the company to come out with the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop in November. This update was instantly followed by the Android 5.0.2 in December.

But other concerns remained, in spite of the two patches and Google was forced to come out with the updated version instead of just a patch. Google hopes to have all Android phones using their system to be upgraded to the 5.1 Lollipop version come summer this year.
