Samsung Galaxy S6 Release Date, Specs & Price: Three Versions Coming? Flagship Line Tipped to be the Best Yet

Allegedly dubbed as "Project Zero," Galaxy S6, the upcoming flagship in Samsung's S-line, was speculated to arrive in three different versions: a standard Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Mini.

Interestingly, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are expected to launch a few weeks from now, at the much-awaited Mobile World Congress. The gathering takes place in Barcelona, Spain on Mar. 2 - 5. Visit the event's official site here.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S6 Mini was thought to take its wraps off on a later date. As told by AndroidPIT, it could be announced "just a few weeks after the Galaxy S6." PC Advisor (UK) believed that a late July or early August release is likely.

Samsung Galaxy S6 (Standard)

Samsung could be ditching the plastic once and for all, according to recent reports. Citing information from Korean site DDaily, BGR noted that the standard and Edge versions of the Galaxy S6 will be "built entirely out of metal and glass." This appears to be the best news aimed at the flagship yet -- premium feel for an S-device, at last.

The standard Galaxy S6 was rumored to pack a QHD display, with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, Digital Trends wrote. Other hinted specs include a 5.5-inch screen, 20 MP main camera, 5 MP front snapper, Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 / Exynos 7420 processor variants, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB / 64 GB / 128 GB storage options and Android 5.0 Lollipop support.

Phone Arena expected the device to retail for $649 off-contract, or $199 under a two-year commitment.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Rumors surrounding a Note Edge-inspired Galaxy S6 had been around for a while, but SamMobile recently confirmed that the Korean tech giant is indeed on its way to a major S-line overhaul. The outlet wrote, "Today, we can confirm that Samsung is indeed developing a Galaxy S6 with two-edge displays, one on each side, reports our source."

That said, the Galaxy S6 Edge appears to have a screen extended on the left and right sides of its form. No official details regarding the screen's functions have been released yet.

SamMobile went on to reveal that the Galaxy S6 Edge will run the same panel-based system of the Note Edge. Hence, news and sport panels, briefing panel and pedometer panel (S Health supported) are some downloadable systems from Samsung's app store.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge was said to go by the model number SM-G925, GSMArena noted. The device will reportedly bring Glance Lighting and color-coded contacts features.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini

AndroidPIT predicted that the device will be an upgrade from the Galaxy S5 Mini. The outlet said it could have a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display. As for primary material, the device was believed to come in either polycarbonate plastic or metal.

PCAdvisor specified the Galaxy S6 Mini's screen to bring a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a high pixel density worth 468 ppi. Other alleged specs include a slower-clocked processor, Corning Gorilla Glass 4, 2 GB of RAM, up tp 128 GB microSD support, 16 MP main camera, 5 MP selfie snapper, and Charcoal Black, Copper Gold, Electric Blue and Shimmery White color options.

And in case you haven't noticed, the device appears to have the same size as Apple's iPhone 6.
