A possible collaboration between Sam Smith and Rihanna might be in the works as the British Grammy nominee expresses his excitement at the upcoming release of the pop singer's new album "R8."
The British crooner adds further thrill to Rihanna's already mysterious new album after he hinted about knowing something no else does in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Capital FM reported.
"I'm personally very excited for Rihanna's album. I know some stuff about that record that no-one knows," the 22-year-old singer stated.
This launched the artists' fans into a whirlwind of speculations across social networking sites, wondering if a duet would be featured in Rihanna's upcoming album "R8," according to the Daily Mail UK.
Rihanna, the voice behind hit songs like "Diamonds" and "Umbrella," is clearly a fan of the sweet-voiced balladeer as she attended his concert held in September at the Greek Theater together with Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross.
Though it is still unclear whether or not collaboration with RiRi was what Smith was implying in his statement, fans excitedly await for Rihanna's album after she kept them guessing details about the new music.
Another possible reason for the singer-songwriter's cryptic message, says the Daily Mail UK, might be that he may have just written a track for the album.
But fans, who took to Twitter to express their thoughts, are clearly rooting for a duet between the American pride and the British crooner.
"Has Sam Smith collaborated with Rihanna for her new album? We sure hope so!" @digitalspy wrote.
"Saw this in @EW mag today: so excited!!" @Swweet_t wrote while posting a snapshot of Smith's statement.
The Twitter post was re-Tweeted by other fans several times who mostly used emoticons to express their surprise at the news.
Rihanna's upcoming album is believed to be introduced to the music industry this year, as a follow up to her album titled "Unapologetic," which was released in 2012.
Sam Smith is currently enjoying a cruise in Australia with his beau, 23-year-old model and dancer Jonathan Zeizel.
As their trip is nearing a conclusion, the 22-year-old singer posted a photo Monday, on Instagram, where he sported a shark mask captioned: "See ya Brisbane!! Has been short but sweet. Last night in Sydney before the dream holiday comes to an end."
Rihanna, on the other hand, was recently seen filming a new music video in Paris as a demo of an "R8" song titled "World Peace," which was leaked online, Digital Spy reported.
