Rancho Mirage Homes: Ralph Kiner’s Property Comes to Market, Johnny Bench Sells Home

The Rancho Mirage home of late baseball great Ralph Kiner is listed for sale, while baseball legend Johnny Bench sold his home in the same area.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Kiner's desert dwelling home is now on the market for $789,900. It features valley and mountain views along with four bedrooms and one guest casita.

Kiner's home, which was built in 1972 in the Thunderbird Villa residence, also has a 0.25 acre pool, modern kitchen, a bonus room and fireplace in the living room. A glass door is also present, which reveals the excellently-landscaped grounds along with a covered patio and a series of citrus trees that improves the view.

Sources indicated that Kiner bought the house in 2012 for $587,000 from listing agent Julie Picking of Miraleste Company. It is now being sold through agent Lawrence Moens of the Lawrence A. Moenes and Associates.

Aside from the Rancho Mirage home, another property in Palm Beach, Florida owned by Kiner and Ann Benisch, his fourth wife, is also on the market.

The residence, which can be seen within the L'Ermitage building, is a 3,445-square foot, waterway-facing property, which has three bedrooms and four bathrooms. It is now listed for sale at $6.2 million.

Kiner, a baseball Hall of Famer, played 10 seasons in the major league - seven with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Throughout his career, he racked up 369 homeruns and 1,015 RBIs. Kiner, who died at the age of 91 in February, also served as a broadcaster for the New York Mets.

Meanwhile, fellow baseball great Johnny Bench also parted ways with his golf course estate in Rancho Mirage, which he sold for $1.195 million along with his waterfront residence in Naples, Florida for $2.95 million.

The half-acre Rancho Mirage property features a putting green and batting cage along with lake and fairway views. The single-story property, which was built in 2004, has four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms along with an office and a center-island kitchen.

The property became available on the market in September - eight years after Bench purchased the home in 2006 for $1.395 million through listing agent Susan Winters of Windermere Real Estate.

On the other hand, the 3,049-square-foot floor Naples home has a great room featuring 20-foot ceilings along with three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, an office and a formal dining room. Bench, who played 17 seasons in the major league for the Cincinnati Reds, bought the property in 2012 for $2.55 million.

According to reports, Bench purchased a waterfront property in Jupiter, Florida for $3.3 million following the sales of his Rancho Mirage and Naples homes.
