Socialite Susan Gutfreund is selling her Manhattan Duplex which she shared with her late husband John Gutfreund for a whopping $120 million. The apartment that was featured in New York Social Diary has a total of four bedrooms, five full bathrooms and a staff quarters. The duplex is on the 7th and 8th floors of the somber and exceptionally exclusive Art Deco co-operative apartment house at 834 Fifth Avenue.
Mr. Gutfreund who is known as the "King of Wall Street" passed away at the age of 86 in March of this year. According to Variety, the listing agent of the property said that Mrs. Gutfreund decided to let go of the apartment because it has become too large for one person. The home is filled with grandeur designs by the noted French interior designer Henri Samuel who filled the place with designs and items from 17th, 18th and 19th century European antiques.
Notable features of the place include the foyer that has 24 foot ceilings and the stunning marble staircase. The library has a stunning 19th century ironstone fireplace while the dining room has elaborate window treatments which include rose pink under curtains that are made of the fabric given by fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.
The formal living room which is located on the upper floor stretches to about 50 feet long, and it has large windows and two fireplaces. It was said that the room was originally configured as two rooms, each with their own fireplaces, but they have renovated the place and combine the area into a large salon in order to impress their guests.
Overall, there are four principal bedrooms and also an expensive staff wing. There are two large guest rooms on the lower floor and one with an adjoining sitting room which is joined by a third and smaller bedroom with en suite set-up. The master bedroom is located on the upper floor and it comprises a sitting room with a fireplace, another separate bedroom and a fitted dressing room that has an adjoining bathroom.
