Home Decorating Tips: How to Make Inexpensive Furniture Look New

Tired of your old boring furniture? Here are simple ways to make a cheap and old furniture look like it's worth a million dollars.

Pop Sugar talked with expert woodworker Jason Pickens who shared some tips with the site's editors on how to customize any furniture and make it look expensive. To freshen up the look of cabinets or doors, Pickens recommend changing the pulls or handles. Antique shops and flea markets are the best place to buy vintage and elegant pieces for this furniture.

If you want a more modern look for the furniture, you can also look for more modern pieces in home and hardware shops. One can also experiment on different styles depending on the style of the room.

He also recommended adding faux finishes like Panyl or decals to give the furniture a more individualized or customized look. If you want to take it a step further, you can also add faux to the insides of shelves and drawers for a more polished result. For chairs and couches, it is best to add upholstery just like in any fabric-based pieces.

Saugu Scoop also suggested adding a fresh coat of paint to the furniture to easily change its look. Choosing a new color for the furniture also requires you to consider the room so that the colors would match.

To maintain the color, it important to add a sealant to the paint job. This is very important for furniture which is used regularly like tables and chairs as paint can easily fade away if not used carefully. Adding a sealant can protect the surface of the furniture, making it suitable for long-term use.
