Flooring 101: How to Maintain a Beautiful Wooden Flooring

Wood Flooring is an expensive material to just waste in your home. Do you know how to take care of your precious wood flooring? If not, check out these tips from Elle Decor to make those pricey floors last a long time.

Take Your Shoes Off

You don't want to ruin those beautiful floors by just stepping on it with your shoes. Wooden Floors can chip anytime and unlike stone floors, they are not that durable. Wooden floors can easily scratch and have disdained marks. It is important to take care of your flooring by wearing slippers as you step on it. This will not only ensure your floors receiving proper care, this will also make it long-lasting.

Clean Those Floors Religiously

Clean your floors regularly. Wooden Floors can easily attract any grime or dirt caused by spills, pet poo, or food mess. Make sure you have a handy dusting agent or cleaning material to mop off this dirt. BHG even suggests using disposable cloths, rags, sponge, and vacuum cleaners to take off this floor mess.

Don't Use so Much Water

Clearly, water can ruin your flooring but if you want to clean your flooring using water, make sure to read on the prescribed cleaning guidelines for your flooring. It is suggested to use cleaning agents specially made for "surface-treated" floors to avoid any discoloration of your wooden flooring.

Getting Rid of Marks

Unnecessary marks in your flooring can not be avoided especially in busy households with kids. Juice spills and pasta sauces are one of the culprits that can mess up your home's flooring. There are some quick fixes with these floor problems depending on the degree on what happened with your floor. Just be careful with what type of material you are using for your floors, BHG also advise to stay away from "sandpapers, steel wool and harsh chemicals."

If you are dealing with "dark spots and stains," the outlet suggests to use a "No. 000 steel wool and floor wax to clear the area but if the stain persists, try using a minimal amount of bleach and vinegar instead then wipe it with a cloth afterwards."

Oil base stains on the other hand can be cleaned with a little of detergent and a soft cloth.
