Real Estate News: Pets and Real Estate are a Perfect Fit, According to NAR’s New Infographic

In line with the 2016 Westminster Dog Show that will begin this week, the National Association of Realtors released a new infographic highlighting reliable information showing that pets and real estate are a perfect fit to each other.

The Make Your House a Dog House Infographic by NAR reported that 65 percent of American households have pets in 2015, up from 56 percent in 1988. Among the US households that have pets, 83 percent of them think of their pet as a member of the family.

Homeowners tend to spent three times more on their pets than renters in 2015. The average annual cost for having a small dog, medium dog, and large dog in the United States are $1,314, $1,580, and $1,843 respectively. The average number of dogs per household is 1.43 dogs.

In their press release in PR News Wire, National Association of Realtors gave some tips on how to make your home more dog-friendly. Realtors says that it is better to use 'hard' wood such as maple, oak, and mahogany as flooring for your home to scratches from running dogs. They also advise homeowners to set-up a cleaning station near the door in order to avoid your dogs from dragging dirt and mud inside. It is also better to use dark color or pattern design than light colors in your furniture to help hide stains and dog hairs.
