Slides are some of the most unforgettable parts of most people's childhood memory. Ukranian architecture firm KI Design has incorporated playground element into the design of a Kharkiv apartment.
According to De Zeen Magazine, an unrenovated Kharkiv unit was given a playful twist by KI Design because the owners wanted a unique design that will not become boring after some time. What the firm did was build a curvy slide that extends from top floor, passing a living green wall in the kitchen, to the sofa. The top floor houses the master's bedroom, guest bedroom, bathroom and office while the ground floor is an open plan that has provision for space for future children.
That apartment unit is on the top floor of a 20th-century building in Kiev. Before KI Design stepped in to revamp the place, there was an unused single stair cased that connected the ground floor to the upper floor.
The color scheme of that Kharkiv apartment is comprised of mainly oak wood dominating neutral tones in the background. According to Domain, the neutral color combinations of this apartment make it different to similar colorful versions found in London, or the New York penthouse by David Hodson.
In the meantime, Portobello Road area of west London boasts of the Rainbow House designed by AB Rogers. It also has a slide that connects the upper and ground floors but unlike the apartment in Ukraine the house is colorful and bold with a rainbow spiral staircase and a secret trapdoor in the master bedroom. The Rainbow house is available for rent but it can set you back at £3500 a week.
Firms like KI Design or Designer David Hudson surely know how to delight children or the grownups who own the homes they had handled. It would not be so hard to imagine how much fun it could be living in those homes.
