Home Decorating Tips: Important Rules on Hanging Curtains & Shades

Hanging curtails and shades might be an easy task, but some people still do not know some of the basic rules in choosing and where to hang these items. My Domaine listed some of the basic rules to follow in hanging curtains in the different parts of the house.

First rule is that unless it is inside the room, it is always important to let the light in. For the living room and the kitchen, choose curtains that are made of sheer fabrics to let natural light in easily. This will also create a natural breezy look inside the room.

The second rule is not to overcrowd the space with too much curtains. It is important to separate the panels, most especially for multiple windows that are spread out across a large wall. Hanging multiple panels creates a soft repetition effect in the room. For spaces where floor-to-ceiling curtains couldn't be used, try to use Roman shades to add a relaxed feel inside the room.

Most people also forget to buy curtains that match their wall color. The site does not recommend curtains with heavy patterns because most of the time these styles do not go with the colors of the wall. So before buying any curtain or drapes, make sure that it matches or complements the color of the room.

Architecture Art Designs also said that the curtains should match the furniture, most especially inside the living room. Curtains are also one way to refresh the home, so choosing the right one is very important. If the furniture is in lighter tones, then the curtains should be in bright colors with details or prints. For furniture that have different colors, it is advised to choose curtains with lighter shades and with no patterns so that the space will not look too crowded.
