Singapore Design: Odette Restaurant Combines Pink and Gray Tones for a Subtle Interior

The Odette restaurant in Singapore boasts a subtle but chic interior combining light pink and gray tones.

According to De Zeen Magazine, the Odette restaurant located in Singapore combined pink terrazzo flooring with natural wood, fixtures made of nickel and gray velvet. Universal Design Studio by Barber and Osgerby conceived the layout for the dining establishment.

Odette restaurant is found inside the recently renovated Singapore National Art Gallery and is named after the mother of Julien Royer, the head chef. The historic architecture of the gallery is still reflected from the restaurant's design, including the mosaic-like floor pattern and the faceted columns.

The designers have defied the design trend of darker-hued restaurant interior with the Odette restaurant project, similar to what has been done to Sketch, a London restaurant which opened a few years back, Curbed noted.

Universal Studio Design stated, "The use of natural light and a bright palette offers a welcome departure from more traditional fine-dining restaurants where darker heavier tones are often found." The studio further said that they have been pushing for the new take on fine-dining interior while staying true to the traditional, classical style of the National Gallery.

The bright and airy feel of Odette is not just because of the light pink and gray hues, but also due to the high ceilings painted in white. Tall glass windows with semitransparent curtains do not just add chicness to the space but also to its glow.

The main dining space has gray velvet chairs and benches placed around circular tables, while a secluded dining area meant for big parties has a long linen-covered table with gray comfy chairs. Restaurant guests can view the chefs working on their meals thanks to the floor-to-ceiling glass windows between the kitchen and the main dining area.

Potted plants are placed sporadically around the restaurant, while a mobile made of butterfly-cut shapes hangs from the ceiling of the central space of Odette.
