Zaha Hadid's High Line Condos Show Futuristic Façade

The development of the High Line Condos of Zaha Hadid, which feature a futuristic façade, is one of the most closely watched projects in the city. The building is the first project of Hadid in the area.

After the renderings, floor plans, interiors, and pricing of the condos have all been finalized, the 11-storey building is now starting to rise above the ground. The project will have a total of 39 condo units. The launching was once reported to be in "early 2015." However, it never happened.

The pricing for a two-bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom condo will start at around $4.595 million, while the most expensive apartment unit will be a 6,400-square-foot penthouse which has an asking price of $35 million.

On the West Chelsea's elevated park, a futuristic condo building designed by architect Zaha Hadid will soon rise with 39 apartment units at 520 West 8th Street.

The project will be Hadid's first residential building in New York City. The renowned architect is working on the project with Ismael Leyva Architects, and Hadid is credited as the designer. The 11-storey building stands 135 feet high and features Hadid's trademark unique curves.

After the ground breaking last year, the building is now under construction up to the fifth floor and should be finished by late 2016 or early 2017, said Gregory Gushee, an executive vice president of the developer, Related Companies.

Prices for apartment units with sizes ranging from 1,691 square feet to 6,618 square feet with two- to five-bedroom layouts start at $4.95 million to $50 million.

Hadid said in her e-mail that her design for 520 West 28th Street will try to evoke the urban dynamic that exists between the streets of West Chelsea and the High Line.

Hadid, who won the coveted Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004, has a good company along the High Line, where other Pritzker-winning architects have designed buildings, including Jean Nouvel, Frank Gehry, Shigeru Ban, Norman Foster and Renzo Piano.
