Celebrities' Malibu Mansions: Yes, This is Where the Big Names Live

Being a celebrity has tons of perks, among them is having the means to buy yourself a property in one of the savviest places in the US, the Malibu. Lined with the most amazing shorelines in California, this strip of land is among the most expensive places to live in. Malibu is well known for its privy and luxurious vibe thanks to the majestic mountains, private roads, gorgeous beaches, and the many hollywood estates.

Artists and famous celebrities flock the area and they own most of the upscale houses the area. Usually, they acquire a property here as a trophy for their success in the industry, like John Travolta, who has been living in his Malibu mansion ever since his big hit in "Saturday Night Fever."

Malibu has this unique appeal that makes it quite an irresistible find, especially for big names in the movie industry. Some of them still live here, like Robert Downey Jr with his $13.5 million home and Charlie Sheen, who has owned his oceanfront since 1995. Tom Hanks too still lives in Malibu with his grand beach estate while "Interstellar" actor Matthew McConaughey lives in his 3,550 square foot property.

Others like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt sold their houses to fellow artists. They used to share a house in Malibu but they sold it to Ellen Degeneres for $12 million in 2012.

While a huge fraction just traded them off for other prized estates. "The Revenant" star Leonardo DiCaprio also had a house here which he sold for $17.3 million back in 2013. Mel Gibson, on the other hand, sold his beautiful beach estate back in 2012 for $9.2 million, while "The Snowman and the Huntsman" antagonist, Charlize Theron also had a house here but listed it in 2011.

A few celebrities got rid of their properties because of ended affairs like Bruce Willis. He also had a beautiful house by the beach back when he was still with Demi Moore. He sold the house shortly after their divorce.

Celebrities grace Malibu with their whooping houses, and it seems like this will be a trend for the years to come.
