Twitter and Bloomberg Unveil New Offices in Australia

On Thursday, New South Wales Premier Mike Baird did the honor and opened the new Twitter office located in 2 Park Street, Sydney, according to Commercial Real Estate. Premier Baird then took to Twitter to share some photos he snapped during the event. Twitter Australia also expressed gratitude that the Premier graced the opening with his presence, the company tweeted, "Thank you @mikebairdMP for officially opening our brand new @TwitterAU office! #SpreadOurWings."

The online social media company was founded in 2006 in San Francisco, California by Evan Williams, Noah Glass, Jack Dorsey and Biz Stone. Unlike Facebook, Twitter only allows users to post short 140-character messages, which the company called "tweets." Its headquarters is in San Francisco, California, United States.

Just recently, according to CNBC, Twitter has suspended over 125,000 accounts that are linked to terrorist activities, specifically accounts that support or promote the ISIS. Last year, it was reported by Brookings Institution that about 46,000 Twitter accounts are used by ISIS supporters. The new number given by Twitter could mean two things. One, the ISIS supported have used Twitter more widely to promote their activities since last year. Two, Twitter was able to effectively identify more accounts linked with ISIS. Either way, the suspension of these accounts tell its users that the social network does not tolerate terrorism.

Furthermore, Twitter announce that they have also increased the number of people working to check for terrorist activities on the social network. Since matters related to terrorism are treated with priority, the company has reduced response time to such reports.

In the meantime, another media company has a new office in Australia. In the same week, according to Commercial Real Estate, Bloomberg opened its new office at 120 Collins Street in Melbourne. The company has transferred from 101 Collins. The opening was attended by former federal treasurer and current chair of the Future Fund Peter Costello.
