PETA Proposes to Turn 'Silence of the Lambs' House into an 'Empathy Museum'

The landmark house that was used as Buffalo Bill’s terrifying dwelling for the 1991 movie "Silence of the Lambs" became very challenging to sell and it is now proposed by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) to turn the house into an “empathy museum,” Domain reported.

The 1906 home in No 8 Circle Street, Perry Township, Pennsylvania was listed in the market last year and its price was dropped in December to $250,000 from its $300,000 price tag but no one still purchased it.

Since no one is interested with the property, the anti-animal cruelty charity PETA made an offer to turn it into a museum wherein people can wear the skins of animals that experienced abuse. The proposed “empathy museum” will allow people to reflect on their experiences of the animals that are used for creating clothes. But no animals will be harmed for the project.

The home, which is used in the Oscar-winning thriller starred by Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster, would be a good place to highlight PETA's message since the character Buffalo Bill imprisoned his human victims in it, slaughtered them and also skinned their bodies in order to make a flesh suit.

“We’re always scouting for ways to get our message out and when we saw that the house was for sale, given the topic of the movie, we just thought it would be great to turn it into an empathy museum for all animals that were killed for their skin,” Peta spokeswoman Kate Tuggle said, according to The Guardian.

The house is listed by owners Scott and Barbara Lloyd, which is located about 30 miles south-east of Pittsburgh, since they can no longer take care of it. The couple purchased the property back in December 1976 and they were married in the home’s foyer in 1977.

The property is a three-story 1910 Victorian house that features four bedrooms and one bath in its 2,334 square feet area. It has a wrap-around porch, high ceilings, and large windows, Yahoo reported.
