2015 Home Design Trends That Need To Say Good Bye

Previously, there has been much talk about what is to be expected in the real estate market now that the Federal Reserve has raised rates, the oil prices are going down and the stock market is becoming more unpredictable that it already is. This does not mean neglecting how houses should look like, whether the market is booming or collapsing. Moreover, keeping up with the trends might just increase home value. Now that we are already one month down in 2016, it is not yet too late to ditch the trends in home decorating of last year so what else should we bid farewell to?

1.      Chalkboard walls.

These chalkboard walls have become so prominent last year that we see them in so many restaurants and shops. Some have even adopted them to home decorating but according to The Press Enterprise, the problem with these walls is that people can easily erase what has been written not to mention the chalk dust that easily transfer to hands and clothes or anything else. Therefore it's about time to erase these walls out of interior decorating lists.

2.      Chevron needs to go

According to Yahoo! Makers, the Chevron print is said to have reached its peak in 2015 and has been the most over used design. Sara Gilbane Sullivan of Sara Gilbane Interiors reportedly said that this V-design no longer looks fresh. An article on CBS News suggests replacing chevron prints with solid or textured patterns.

3.      Monochromatic design schemes are less appealing

According to The Press Enterprise, the white, gray, beige or straw look is losing their appeal fast. On the other hand, according to Yahoo! Makers, Lucie Ayres of 22 Interiors said, "We've seen way too much gray from floors, furniture finishes, interior paint, and exterior paint and in every type of fabric. I think we'll be moving toward high contrast rooms and unexpected choices like black or colored trim."

4.      Overly decorated rooms

Much attention is given to minimalism and simple design lately. According to The Press Enterprise, if you have too many pillows that people could no longer sit on your couch, that is over decorating. The key is to keep thing simple and design or accessories should be meaningful.

5.      Boring kitchens.

White kitchens may be nice but more designers now aim to see more color in the kitchen. In addition, according to According to Yahoo! Makers, the neutral palettes will still be in the background to accommodate richer colors in the front position.
