House Tips: How to Make Your Home Family-Friendly

Everyone wants a home that is family-friendly. Here are some of the steps that you can do to make your residence stylish yet family-friendly:

  • Create an impressive entryway. One of the challenging areas in one's home is the entryway. Usually, a huge mirror, frame or a striking art décor is seen hanging in the home's entry. However, sometimes leaving the wall empty and just putting some small accessories such as assorted vases or art pieces on the console could make a lot of difference.
  • Frame your child's artworks. If you think only professionally painted art can be displayed, then you're wrong. You can frame anything such as your child's drawing, paper art or colored artwork. This can make a huge impact on your wall as it makes it colorful and lively.
  • Have an open floor plan. "The openness makes it easy for everyone to mingle and not feel separated. But it was important that the two rooms look coordinated," designer Barbara Westbrook said of an open floor plan they made for an Atlanta house family room, according to House Beautiful.
  • Incorporate furniture made for everyday life. You can pick a round table to see everyone's faces. This promotes social interaction among members. This also extends to the kitchen, family room and dining room. Every member of the family must feel welcome and at ease, Style At Home reports.
  • Choose easy-to-maintain floor. For a family-friendly residence, it is best to pick flooring that can be easily maintained with a damp mop. You can try wood, tile, linoleum and laminated ones. Wall-to-wall carpet with medium to dark color is also a good choice. For stain-free floor, opt for nylon and wool-nylon mix, HGTV recommends.
  • Opt for sturdy materials. When buying furniture, durability is the key. For a family with three or four children, it is best to buy durable sofas and rugs that are stain-proof, sturdy and require little maintenance. Make sure to consider this factor to save a lot of time and money.
