Home Design: 3 Types of Lighting Every Room Needs

Lighting Fixtures help the house reveal its beautiful features and it also adds up a dramatic effect when used correctly. So what are the lighting fixtures that could help reveal your house's best attributes?

If you're confused with what lighting fixtures to choose, just consider three- ambient, task, and accent and see how these will work best for your home. Interior Designer and Lamps Plus Trends Producer Michael Murphy advise about this and how any homemaker can utilize these three fixtures in any room of the house.

Ambient Lighting

This is in general one type of lighting that homemakers are familiar with, ambient lighting or is referred to as general or the primary source of lighting in our homes. The types of ambient lighting are "chandeliers, recessed lighting or scones."

Pro Advice for Ambient Lighting: "When wiring your rooms, include multiple circuits. This will allow you to dim some lights while keeping others brighter, a perfect solution for multi-tasking families and those who want to create the perfect ambience in a snap."

Task Lighting

As its name connotes, this lighting is used for "specific tasks" at home such as preparing meals, cleaning a room, doing laundry etc.

Pro Advice for Task Lighting: "Even illumination is essential when planning your bathroom lighting plan. One way to do this is simply by making sure the same amount of light comes from the sides of the room as the top of the room. Even lighting will help prevent shadows and create the perfect bathroom lighting for applying make-up or shaving."

Accent Lighting

Accent Lighting is used to "highlight" strong features of a home like an art piece in the wall or a sculpture in your entrance.

Pro Advice for Accent Lighting: "For spaces that are perfect for wall art, but missing an outlet, use a battery-operated picture light with a remote control."
