Super Smash Bros. is The Fastest Wii U Seller in North America

Super Smash Bros. has been revealed to be the fastest-selling Wii U game to have been released in the United States.

According to Nintendo via Game Spot, the Wii U game has sold 490,000 combined physical and digital units in the span of three days, Nov. 21-23.

The stats indicate that the record holder, Mario Kart 8, has been dethroned and now sits at second place. IGN reports that since the Smash Bros. Hit the scene in 1999, over 14 million units have been old within the US alone.

The sales from outside the United States have yet to be disclosed but it should run in the same ballpark as Mario Kart 8, which sold 1.2 million worldwide within the same time frame, recalled CNet. Nintendo ha suggested that the game is selling at a much higher rate, which suggests that number could be significantly higher with tabulation of the international sales.

For those that aren't aware of what the popular game is about, CNet summarized the game concept: "The game features a wide range of famous Nintendo characters, including the iconic Mario and Link of the Legend of Zelda franchise fame. Unlike the platforming found in Super Mario Bros. or the kart racing in Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. Wii U is a fighting game."

The game's predecessor, Super Smash Bros. Brawl -- released in 2008 -- has sold over 12 million copies globally.

Game Spot quoted Nintendo of America marketing executive Scott Moffitt who acknowledged that while the holiday season has been "off to a great start," here remains "a lot of work left to do."

Forbes noted that the Wii U remains a great gift option for this year's holiday season. The console boats of great graphics, wide range of exclusives and importantly, caries a much lighter price tag than both the PS4 and the Xbox One.

The publication continued to note that Smash Bros. has been widely reviewed as a great game. While there are limited Black Friday Wii U deals available, consider checking out Best Buy to see what discounts are available.

For those interested to buy the game, Super Smash Bros. is available for Nintendo 3DS as well as Wii U. More information and online purchase are available on the game's official website
