New York Real Estate Listing: Penthouse in the Same Building as Bowie's Apartment Sells for $11.7M

A penthouse in one of the most sought-after buildings where celebrities like David Bowie resides is being sold for $11.7 million.

According to the New York Post, the 2,890-square-foot penthouse in 285 Lafayette Soho has a total of four bedrooms and three and half bathrooms. The property was first listed in March 2015 with the original asking price of $12.99 million. Listing details for the property reveal that it has its own private master floor and five terraces. The place also offers open views of downtown and exceptional southern exposures.

The penthouse is accessed through the key-locked elevator, and the entrance is a gracious entry foyer which has double height ceilings. The penthouse also has an open kitchen with Miele appliances, including a wine cooler, refrigerator, and convection oven and water filtration system. The kitchen also has stainless steel cabinets and Corian counter tops.

The spacious dining area opens to the private terrace with spectacular views of the city, while the 22-foot living area can be filled with art collections. The flooring features Brazilian cherry wood, and it also has a new heating, ventilating and AC system.

The 285 Lafayette is a 10-story building located at the heart of Soho and is south of the famous Puck Building.The building reportedly has one of the best landscaped rooftop gardens (which can be accessed through the direct elevators) in Downtown New York.

Bowie was a famous English singer and songwriter and was particularly known for his work in the 1970s. Just two days after his 69th birthday, he died from liver cancer in his New York apartment. He had been diagnosed with the disease 18 months earlier, and fans paid their respects to the late singer by gathering outside his apartment building.
