Pacquiao vs Mayweather: Fight Pegged at $1 Billion

How much is a Manny Pacquiao- Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight worth?

The Daily Mail is reporting that promoter Bob Arum is predicting the fight could generate one billion dollars.

That's the amount that could be generated if Pacman is able to hurdle past Chris Algieri over the weekend in Macau.

"Promoter Bob Arum is predicting a subscription television audience in the People's Republic in excess of 100 million. That would generate double the $300million which is being projected as the US pay-TV value of the Fight of the Century," wrote the website.

With a price tag of $5 PPV in China that will be multiplied by one-tenth of the country's massive population, the amount is a staggering $650 million.

Additionally, the site noted that with local boxing legend Zou Shiming on the fight card, to happen in Macau, China, the driving force of the fight would zoom as "hundreds of millions" of locals watch his fights on TV.

Daily Mail also cited that with a $95 PPV in the United States, a target of three million subscribers would rake in about $300 million.

"Shiming is the driving force for taking pay-per-view into China. They idolize him and hundreds of millions have been watching him on regular television. Combine his appeal with Pacquiao-Mayweather and we are looking at numbers undreamed of before," said Arum.

With a billion dollar price tag, each of the fighters stand to bring home a quarter of the estimates with Mayweather bringing home $150 million and Pacquiao making $100 million.

Arum notes that the fight could happen in either Las Vegas or Macau, the "Las Vegas" of the East. He noted that the logistics are parallel with the Las Vega schedule. With a mid-day fight in the East, Las Vegas would catch it 8pm local time, making it convenient regardless if you're in the East or West.

One person that would be happy with a Macau fight is the Philippine congressman: "I love fighting in Vegas but when I box in Macau it feels like a home game. This is only a 90-minute flight from Manila and we're expecting at least 5,000 of my fans who can't always afford the cost of traveling all the way to America."

"And the love of boxing among hundreds of millions of Chinese is exciting for the sport. Boxing owes a great debt to Shiming for opening up his homeland," added the legendary boxer.

The match, dubbed a the "Fight of the Century" has been going on since 2009 but has never materialized due to conflicting demands from both camps.

Catch Pacquiao take on Algieri on Saturday as he defends his WBO welterweight title.
