'Iron Man 4' Trailer, Release Date & Movie: Mel Gibson Wants to Direct Fourth Film, Says: 'I think I can do it'

"Iron Man 4" has yet to be officially confirmed but a Hollywood celebrity has already tossed his name in the ring as an interested director. During an interview with Mario Lopez for Extra TV, Mel Gibson said he is interested to take the lead in making the fourth franchise installment a reality.

"I'm pretty good at directing...I think I got some statues for it...I think I can do it," quoted the site of Gibson who was referring to his Best Picture and Best Director Academy Awards for 1995's Braveheart.

He added, "I think I'm a better director than actor. I hope somebody gives me an argument on that."

The comments come after it was reported that Marvel superstar Robert Downey Jr. Would return for another "Iron Man" movie if "The Patriot" actor would be the one directing the flick.

Screen Rant reported that Downey is trying to negotiate space for Gibson, 58, in the Marvel world. The site claims that Downey, 49, because he owes a lot to Gibson for setting him on the right path during a rough time which included drugs and run ins with the law.

In an earlier interview, Deadline, posed a question regarding a possible fourth film to Downey. "Marvel badly wants Iron Man 4 and you've said you aren't doing it. How about the idea you'll do that movie if Mel directs it?"

"Correct," said the actor and added that the "movie would be bananas."

Following that comment, Downey later explained what he meant in his Reddit AMA: "It was an offhanded remark to a journalist and friend. I have other projects in mind for Mel and I - sooner than later the Marvel Roster will be made public and all questions will be answered."

While it seems "Iron Man 4" still has a lot to work out, outside of the massively successful franchise, Robert's character isn't going anywhere. Iron Man is slated to appear in other Marvel films that are underway.

Aside from the upcoming "Avengers" sequel, "Avengers: Age of Ultron," Downey will be bringing Tony Stark's alter ego to the "Captain America" series.

Downey is believed to have a major role in the upcoming flick "Captain America 3: Civil War." Variety wrote that the actor is set to play a key role in the third installment due out May 2016.

In the mean time, see the trailer of "Avengers: Age of Ultron" set to be released on May 2015.
