Turning 19 and getting engaged -- what a way to make a birthday extra memorable!
That has been the route taken by "Duck Dynasty" star John Luke Robertson. He proposed to his girlfriend Mary Kate McEacharn during his 19th birthday celebration last Saturday, reports E! Online.
"I am so excited to marry my best friend. I know my parents married young as well, and they have always been examples of what 'could be' to me," says John Luke in a statement to E! News the following day.
John Luke disclosed that after 22 years of marriage, his parents remain in love with one another. "I hope Mary Kate and I are the same way in the years to come. God has truly blessed us," he added.
John Luke is the oldest of the four children of Willie and Korie Robertson, who got married in 1992, at the ages of 19 and 18, respectively, cites E! Online.
Willie is the CEO of Duck Commander, the successful company founded by family patriarch Phil Robertson, which is explored on the "Duck Dynasty" show, details the Daily Mail.
The Daily Mail also reported that following his birthday and engagement party on October 11, the "Duck Dynasty" star subsequently shared the happy news on social media.
Robertson posted a photo on his Instagram account showing him holding a big sign with an arrow pointing to McEacharn on his side that reads: "Future Mrs. Robertson."
He captioned his post: "She.Said.Yes. @missmarymcmcmc"
Mary Kate is seen proudly showing off her engagement ring complete with a wide smile on her face. She also posted the black and white version of the photo on her Instagram account and captioned it: "Happy Birthday to the boy I'm going to marry."
E! Online shares that John Luke and Mary Kate both went to Ouachita Christian School in Monroe, Louisiana together. Mary Kate is still in college.
The couple began dating in March and have since travelled abroad together, recounts E! Online.
The Daily Mail notes that the couple looked really classy during their engagement night. John Luke was in dark trousers with a white-button up and suspenders while Mary Kate was in a navy blue and white frock.
Meanwhile, both Willie and Korie tweeted their excitement over the engagement news the following day.
"Nineteen years ago, I welcomed my first son into the world. Happy Birthday big boy! The world's a better place with you in it," Willie's tweet read.
For her part, Korie posted on her Twitter: "Yes, it's true. John proposed to Mary Kate last night. We couldn't be more excited!"
