Microsoft Pushes Roll Out of Windows 10 To Windows 8.1 Devices in 2016

While Microsoft is trying to convince Windows 7 and Windows 8 PC users to upgrade to Windows 10, in a more pushy way, mobile upgrade has already started rolling out with the aim of completing it come 2016.

Registered users on Windows Insider Program have begun receiving the Windows 10 update on their devices, News4C has reported. But unfortunately to the majority of Windows phone users, the update that was supposedly to happen this month, has been pushed back to 2016. Fans are hoping to get the update which will bring universal Windows app, along with other features such as Cortana, Continuum and Microsoft Edge.

Mashable has noted that it is important to bring the update as soon as possible if Microsoft wants to hold on to what small share of costumers it has as compared to Apple and Android. And the delay was not actually a good sign. Currently, only the newly launched Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL run on Windows 10.

Microsoft has not released any official list of devices that are slated to be upgraded to Windows 10. But a Redditor has made a guess list of the eligible and ineligible handsets. Eligible devices include XDE, HTC One M8 for Windows, Lumia 640 (Dual SIM, LTE, XL, XL LTE), Lumia ICON, Lumia 520, just to name a few. Devices that are not likely to receive Windows 10 include ATIV Odyssey, ATIV S, ATIV S Neo, ATIV SE, Lumia 505, Lumia 510, Lumia 530, Nokia 510, Nokia 610, Nokia 610C, Nokia 710, Nokia 800, Nokia 800C, Nokia 900, Windows Phone - Internet 7, Windows Phone 8S HTC, Windows Phone 8X HTC, and Windows Phone 8XT HTC.

Windows Phone 8.1 devices with build number 8.10.14219.341 or higher can be upgraded to Windows 10. The device should have at least 1.5 GB of free storage, with 50 percent battery power. The update will come over the air.
