‘Maze Runner 3’ Movie Updates: Dylan O’Brien Back On Set in 2016; ‘The Death Cure’ Will Feature A One-Year Time Jump

The "Maze Runner" movie franchise is on its third and last installment titled, "The Death Cure." While the first two films, including the latest installment titled "The Scorch Trials," saw a continuous transition in events, director Wes Ball reveals that the upcoming movie, "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" will go through a one-year time jump.

"Maze Runner" is probably one of the movie franchises based on a best selling novel that did not split the last book into two parts. "The Death Cure," as most fans and readers know, is the last installment in both of James Dashner's book series and in its movie counterpart.

In an earlier interview with Collider, director Wes Ball shared some exciting details about "Maze Runner: The Death Cure." According to the "Maze Runner" and "The Scorch Trials" director, "The Death Cure" will be set a year after the events from its predecessor.

"This next one will be cool because we're gonna cut maybe a year later. Yeah, so it'll be cool. Some things have happened off screen, which is gonna make the movie feel even bigger," Ball said.

Ball further revealed that the cast, including its lead actor Dylan O'Brien, will be returning on set for "Maze Runner 3" by February next year. The director also promised fans and viewers that the last and final installment to the franchise will be "even better and even cooler" than the first two films.

Meanwhile, "Maze Runner" author James Dashner recently revealed that he would also like to see his prequels, "The Kill Order" and "The Fever Code" translated into the big screens, Movie Web reported. The outlet noted that these prequels will show the spread of a mysterious disease and will offer explanation as to how Thomas and the other Gladers entered the maze.

"Maze Runner: The Death Cure" premieres in Feb. 2017.
