This ‘Gold Plated’ Florida Mansion is America’s Most Expensive Home Asking $139 Million (VIDEO TOUR)

A work-in-progress mansion in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has reportedly hit the market for $139 million, crowning it the most expensive single-family home officially listed in the country.

Though it is still under construction, the mansion has some pretty exorbitant features like 22-karat "gold-plated" staircase and the first ever "IMAX" theater to be fitted in a residence.

Le Palais Royal is a 60,000-square-foot single-family residence that has 11 bedrooms and 17 bathrooms. Inspired from the palaces of Europe, the mansion can definitely give some stiff competition to the Versailles.

"Le Palais Royal is to be the most expensive listing on the market in America, and was designed to be fit for royalty and the upmost refined individual. It is a true extension of a life well-lived," William P.D. Pierce, a Coldwell Banker Previews International property specialist, said in a statement.

"This grand palace will be a landmark that rivals Europe's greatest palaces. A true masterpiece, it is adorned with custom detailing exclusive to its design and incomparable finishes," Pierce, who is marketing the poperty, added.

"I'm honored to have the opportunity to represent this property to showcase to the world we can build palaces, too," Pierce told Forbes. The mansion is slated to finish construction by 2015. The owner of the home, though undisclosed, is a wealthy man who abandoned the dream of building the house for travelling the world on his yacht.

The home has been designed by fashion mogul Joseph Leone and "in-house" architect Denio Madera Design. Not one detail has been spared in building this giant white elephant.

A large 13-foot, 22-carat gold-leaf gate opens into the driveway that leads to the opulent mansion. One of the six fountains sits in front of the residence.

Double doors open into a huge marble room with the massive gold-plated staircase which apparently took two years to complete. The house has high cathedral ceilings and large French windows adorning large halls.

Living spaces include three master suites, each with a Jacuzzi and overlooking the ocean, and one presidential suite. The IMAX theater can accommodate up to 50 people and has its own lounge with a bar area. The family room has a 1,300-gallon aquarium fit into the custom cabinetry that can accommodate a HD TV. There is a gourmet chef's kitchen with custom cabinetry that sports gold-leafing as well.

There is an air-conditioned canine room for the dogs too.

Exterior features include an underground 30-car garage, a 4,500-square-foot infinity pool that has a double-loop cascading water slide with LED lights and a swim-up bar. There is also a plunge pool where one can dive into from the presidential suite.

Sat across 4-acres of plush luxury property, the home provides 465-feet of beach frontage and a 492-foot dock. There is a putting green too. Take a peek below:

Previously, the Copper Beech Farm, a mansion in Greenwich, Conn., wore the crown of the most expensive listing of the United States. The estate debuted with a massive $190 million price tag, but was pricechopped until it finally sold for $120 million, lower than what Le Palais Royal is listed for.

While this is the most expensive on-market home, The Manor in Los Angeles is reportedly being marketed for $150 million off the MLS.
