Director Ron Howard Sells Connecticut Estate for $27.5 Million

Ron Howard, the Oscar-winning director and "The Andy Griffith Show" actor, has reportedly sold his lake-front home near Greenwich, Conn., for $27.5 million.

Howard listed the property in May for the same price and the house sold just within a span of two months.

"The property was listed May 3 - and 10 days later we had a deal," Tamar Lurie of Coldwell Banker in Greenwich, the listing agent, told The Wall Street Journal.

"It is an incredibly amazing and beautiful house so I am not surprised. When I saw the house I thought that someone will fall deeply in love with it. And that has happened," Lurie added.

Howard bought the property about 20 years ago. He and his wife Cheryl made it their primary residence, bringing up their children in the house and simultaneously adding luxury amenities to the place. It currently spans an area of 32 acres and has everything from a full-fledged home theater to a sports barn and an observatory.

"Everything kept evolving. We built it, and then we said 'how about this, how about that?'" Howard told The Wall Street Journal. Tucked away from the city's hustle-bustle, the estate was perfect for raising a family.

"We moved 3,000 miles away from the hub of Los Angeles to raise our family here. Whether we're watching films in our theater, walking the trails throughout our property, stargazing in our observatory, or just relaxing with friends and loved ones by the lake, Cheryl and I feel we've accomplished the goals we set when we began work on this place," Howard said, according to the Realtor Blog, which cited a press release.

They bought huge plots of land in 1991 and spent several years building the main house. But why were they selling? Apparently, their children are all grown up and they barely live in the place anymore.

The home is a gigantic luxury residence spread across an area of 17,200 square feet sitting on a 32.7-acre lot. The main home has six bedrooms and five full and four half bathrooms with some exclusive features like a yoga studio, a game room, an office and an indoor pool, which is inspired from the movie "Cocoon."

Other stunning features of the home include sprawling gardens, a tennis court, a basketball court, a greenhouse and an animal barn as well.

"The Howards' property is truly in a class of its own and is located in Conyers Farm, one of the country's most prestigious communities. The 32-acre compound enjoys breathtaking, panoramic views of Converse Lake and has a warm, welcoming vibe that is felt from the moment you drive onto the property," Lyn Stevens of Sotheby's International Realty told the Realtor Blog in an earlier interview.

While Howard struck gold with his real estate deals, he is also embarking on an exciting project on the work front. The "Rush" director will get behind the camera (and the computer) to direct a new "Beatles" documentary.

"What's so compelling to me is the perspective that we have now, the chance to really understand the impact that they had on the world," Howard told Rolling Stones magazine in an interview.

"That six-year period is such a dramatic transformation in terms of global culture and these remarkable four individuals, who were both geniuses and also entirely relatable. That duality is something that is going to be very interesting to explore," he added.
