Oz’s Cowardly Lion and Paul McCartney Once Lived in this Beverly Hills Home; Own it for $28.5 Million

What do Paul McCartney of "The Beatles" and The "Cowardly Lion" in the "Wizard of OZ" have in common? An address apparently!

A residence in Beverly Hills, which attracted several high profile celebrities like Melanie Griffith and pin-up girl Betty Grable apart from the aforementioned celebrities, can now be yours for $28.5 million

The residence at 9555 Heather Rd was built in 1941 for Bert Lahr - the man who played the "Cowardly Lion" in "The Wizard of Oz." It was designed by starchitect Paul Williams and has been renovated with care to include the most modern amenities while preserving its original touches.

Lahr added his own essence to the house after he moved in.

"It turns out that the lion from the 'Wizard of Oz' was a wizard of design. He brought in one of the most celebrated architects of the day, Paul Williams, and then added his own original touches to create a countryside home in the heart of the city," Joyce Rey of Coldwell Banker Previews International told the Zillow Blog in an earlier interview.

The home is now owned by French fashion designer Guy Attal, who tried flipping it for a lower $25.5 million four years ago but de-listed it soon. While the price tag has changed now, the listing agent remains the same.

Spanning an area of 9,987 square feet, the single family residence sits on a prime 1.38-acre lot. Situated in a gated and secure compound, the residence is accessible through a stone paved driveway.

The residence has eight bedrooms and ten bathrooms, all done up with exquisite style. Resembling a Hamptons/Connecticut house, the residence boasts of paneled hardwood, stone-tiled and carpeted flooring along with high soaring wood-beamed ceilings and glass doors and windows.

The home has a formal living area, a dining space and modern kitchen. There are two master suites with en-suite bathrooms, three powder rooms, two staff quarters and a media room as well. A wine cellar and a wet bar are some of its other features.

There is a detached guest house that has two bedroom and two and a half bathrooms accessible through a private entrance. It also has a separate two-car garage.

The residence offers excellent outdoor entertaining amenities too with a putting green, a luxury pool, a sports court, a koi pond and a wet bar.

A vintage two-lane bowling alley and a full-fledged game room are also part of the property.
