Reed Krakoff buys $28 million Upper East Side townhouse

Reed Krakoff, the famous fashion designer and his interior decorator wife Delphine have reportedly purchased a five-story red-brick townhouse in the Upper East Side of New York City for $28 million.

According to the Real Estalker, the couple purchased the residence in an off-market deal.

News of the splurge comes just months after Krakoff sold off another property in the area for $51 million. Krakoff sold the townhouse at East 70th Street to an anonymous trust in February. He purchased it for $17 million and wanted to unload it for $52 million but settled for a million lesser. The home featured in several established publications like Elle décor, Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. Delphine personally designed the place.

Talking about the home to Vogue, Delphine said:

"We were looking for a house that needed a lot of work. Something that would scare a lot of people! That's what we love to do-it's what we do best."

However, the couple has now decamped to a new and a little smaller Upper East Side townhouse. Spanning an area of 12,551 square feet, the residence has eight bedrooms and three full and one half bathroom.

A source told the New York Post that the residence is, "like a piece of a castle in New York."

Floor plans of the five-story house reveal interior details of each level. The ground level has a kitchen, a bedroom which can be used as an office and vault storage. The level above the ground floor has a parlor, a pantry and a large dining room.

While the third floor has a library and a spacious living room, the fourth floor is comprised of the master suite and two other bedrooms. The top most floor has a den, a sitting room and four other bedrooms.

In the Vogue interview, Delphine added:

"Some couples like to hike or garden together. Collecting design is what we love to do together. Reed comes home from work and I show him the pieces I found that day and he shows me things he found. Every day, it's 'Look at what I found. I love this piece!'"

Last month, it was also reported that Krakoff purchased "La Beau Chateau," the Connecticut mansion that belonged to the late heiress Huguette Clark. He reportedly paid $14.3 million for the humongous mansion.
